Laurie O’Garro discovered Funky String Art in 2014 when she was fasting and needed to take her mind off eating! Out of nowhere, she was transported back to her childhood when she was lucky enough to do lots of arts and crafts at school.
When she was ten years old, she learned how to draw parabolic curves. Fast forward thirty-five years and she sat at her dinner table and recreated those geometric shapes.
She was inspired to make cards based on those designs and after that, Laurie started to get more creative, and stitched designs that she was drawn to.
Every year saw her becoming more and more adventurous until, in 2019, I made my signature 'Black Woman in a Headwrap' piece. She had challenged herself to make a large piece and, finding a design online, she dedicated over thirty hours printing, making tiny holes in card and ‘joining the dots’.
